Overview

There is a decreased risk of the baby requiring admission to hospital in the first year of life and beyond. There are health benefits of reducing the risk of developing childhood/adult chronic illnesses; eg asthma.

Course objectives

  • To equip healthcare professionals to work towards NICE guidance and UNICEF baby friendly accreditation
  • To support and empower all healthcare professionals who are caring for pregnant women and new mothers
  • To facilitate healthcare professionals to provide the skills that new mothers require to attain exclusive breast feeding
  • To provide healthcare professionals with skills and knowledge required to support exclusive breast feeding
  • To abide by the WHO code on breast milk substitute
  • To equip the healthcare professional to be sensitive to mothers who make an informed choice on other aspects of infant feeding

Who is this course aimed at

This course is aimed at all healthcare professionals; it is especially important for Health Visitors, Community Nursery Nurses, Midwives and Midwifery Support Workers to support their best practice and adherence to the Baby Friendly standards.
