Pressure Ulcer Study Day

Overview

The training will cover the basic principles of pressure ulcer prevention and management. During the session we will show some of the information resources and tools available on the Trust website that can be used in the clinical areas to identify patients at risk, help distinguish pressure ulcers from other wounds and device an holistic care plan. 

This training is aimed for all healthcare professionals involved in the management of patients at risk for pressure ulcers. The main aim is to raise awareness for these wounds and deliver safe care to our patients.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the session, the delegate will be able to:

• Identify the common risk factors for developing pressure ulcers
• Confidently complete the risk assessment tool (Waterlow Score ) used in the Trust
• Recognise the different categories of pressure ulcers: Be able to recognise a moisture associated skin damage (MASD), differentiate from a pressure ulcer and know how to manage effectively the skin condition
• Devise a pressure ulcer prevention care plan using the Trust Pressure Ulcer  Pathway and the aSSKINg bundle
• Initiate a pressure ulcer management care plan for less severe pressure damage (Cat. 1 and Cat. 2 PUs)
